Factors Influencing Infiltration and Sediment Production of Semiarid Rangelands in Nevada

چکیده

Simulated rainfall was used to study infiltration rates and sediment production of28 plant communities and soils of five watershed areas in central and eastern Nevada. Two antecedent moisture conditions were used: soil initially air dry and initially at field capacity. InfiltratIOn rates and sediment production of the various soils are largely controlled by extent and surface morphology of dune interspace soils. Vesicular horizons are unstable in dune interspace surface soils. These horizons seldom occur in coppice dunes or in well-aggregated dune interspace soils. Infiltration rate is negatively related, and sediment production positively related to the occurrence and morphology of vesicular horizons. More sediment is produced from soils with antecedent moisture initially at field capacity than from'initially dry soil because of the instability of vesicular horizons when the soils were saturated.

Assessing Impact of Anthropogenic Disturbances on Forage Production in Arid and Semiarid Rangelands

Forage is one of the main products of rangeland ecosystems, which is threatened by different anthropogenic disturbances. This study was conducted to assess the impact of urbanization, rural development, agriculture extension, road construction and industry on forage production in an arid and semiarid rangeland using InVEST habitat quality model in spring 2018. In 14 rangeland types, thirty 2×1m...

Identifying Carbon Sequestration Hotspots in Semiarid Rangelands (Case study: Baghbazm region of Bardsir city, Kerman province)

Carbon sequestration in rangeland ecosystems has been identified as a suitable strategy to offset greenhouse gas emissions that information of carbon sequestration hotspots is a good tool to improve rangeland management. Objectives for this study were to assessment potential carbon sequestration in various rangeland types, to identify carbon sequestration hotspots and to study the effective fact...

Climate and topographic controls on simulated pasture production in a semiarid Mediterranean watershed with scattered tree cover

Natural grasses in semiarid rangelands constitute an effective protection against soil erosion and degradation, are a source of natural food for livestock and play a critical role in the hydrologic cycle by contributing to the uptake and transpiration of water. However, natural pastures are threatened by land abandonment and the consequent encroachment of shrubs and trees as well as by changing...

Determination of optimized sediment rating equation and its relationship with physical characteristics of watershed in semiarid regions: A case study of Pol-Doab watershed, Iran

Managers always consider the precise estimation of sediments in watersheds due to various conditions, such assoil and water resources management, construction, infrastructure and economical and social issues. In this condition,an optimized determination of sediment rating equation (typical method until now for sediment yield estimation) isessential to investigate sediment yield in rivers. In th...
